“How do you inspire and encourage your students to live out the Mesquite Promise in their daily lives?”

Principal Jose M. Peterson-Torres: My strategy for inspiring students to live out the Mesquite Promise daily is to embed it directly into the culture of our campus, driven by my commitment to determination, collaboration, and empowerment. I will personally model a no-excuses mindset and persistence to help students develop the Promise's 16 positive habits, while actively cultivating a community that values trust and empathy to foster a shared commitment to dignity and belonging. By integrating Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) and restorative practices throughout our school environment, I will empower every student to Seize Tomorrow Today, making them problem-solvers who own their success and contribute positively to our society.

Community Helps Shape New Consolidated Motley-Lawrence Campus

More than 50 community members from Motley and Lawrence Elementary gathered on October 2 for a Campus Design Community Input Meeting to help guide plans for a new consolidated campus at the current Motley Elementary property.

The project is still in its early planning stages, and this meeting marked a significant step toward shaping the future campus. Students, parents, and staff members shared priorities and ideas to establish a shared vision that reflects the needs and values of both school communities.

In May 2025, Mesquite ISD voters approved a $600 million bond, which includes the replacement of the Motley and Lawrence campuses. This investment will allow the district to reduce long-term maintenance costs while building a modern, state-of-the-art learning environment for students.
